The City of Rolling Hills is distinguished and has been named the richest town in California (247wallst.com, 2016) and the U.S. (Worth Magazine, 1996), along with being named one of the top ten safest cities in California (consumeraffairs.com, 2016). Rolling Hills owes this safety in part to to the fact that it is a gated community with security on-site. This community of 3 square miles has a rural feel and includes equestrian paths throughout. Likewise, there are no traffic lights to be seen, and homes have ample space in between them. A number of notable people have called Rolling Hills home, including Paul Sams (Video game developer and part owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers football team), Alex McLeod (TV personality and host of Trading Spaces), and Tracy Austin (former world #1 tennis player and two-time US Open winner).
The residents of Rolling Hills enjoy much privacy and peace, despite being a short distance from Hollywood. Rolling Hills is 26.9 miles southwest of Los Angeles, and located on the south end of Santa Monica Bay. It’s approximately 22.9 miles from the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and provides easy access to US 405.
The City of Rolling Hills has private roads which can only be accessed through the city’s three entry gates. For most services such as school, employment, and shopping opportunities, Rolling Hills residents go to neighboring towns on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The only official public spaces inside Rolling Hills are the City Hall and Community Association. Homes inside the city are single-story 19th century California ranch or Spanish haciendas, and it is a requirement that homes have white exterior paint and adjacent horse property or land where stalls could be built.
Recreational opportunities in Rolling Hills include The Caballeros de Rancho Palos Verdes (equestrian and trail club), The Tennis Club, and the Women’s Community Club. These clubs provide a variety of recreational and volunteer opportunities to the community.
The climate of Rolling Hills is temperate and sunny with just 15 inches of rain per year, compared to the nation’s 39 inch average.
